The Texas Hill Country

The Hill Country Twister is a 40-mile ride with beautiful scenery and twists and turns that will really keep you on your toes. Don’t forget your camera - this is exquisite beauty. Highway 16 ranks as a Top Ten favorite among motorcyclists. From Kerrville, head south on Highway 16 through Medina and ending at Bandera. From late May to the middle of June, you can enjoy the Kerrville Folk Festival, celebrating folk and country songwriters since 1972.

South of Kerrville, as you head south into the Medina River Valley, you will find Koyote Ranch Resort. At Koyote Ranch you’re as likely to see horseback riders as you are bikers. Hundred-year old oak trees line the road, bluebonnets cover the hills in the springtime, and you’ll cross the beautiful Medina River back and forth as you meander through the hills and valleys. As you travel further south to Medina, you can experience the Apple Festival and taste the best apple pie ever created.

From Medina, you’ll turn southeast on Highway 16 and the tour ends at Bandera, Texas, the “cowboy capital of the world.” In Bandera, there are B&Bs, dude and guest ranches, cabins, hotels, motels and RV parks for overnight accommodations. And the activities are as plentiful as the wildflower. Shop for antiques, take a horseback ride, take in a rodeo, visit historical sites and museums or venture off of Highway 16 for scenic drives. Year round there are exciting events to entertain the whole family. And dining establishments to meet any budget, any taste.

Highway 16 is a beautiful drive with switchbacks and turns rivaling any mountain road. However, the likelihood of finding deer and other wildlife on the road at daybreak and sundown is high. And this is NOT a ride for beginners. But if have some experience, and you are comfortable on your bike, this is must-see in southwest Texas.

Winter temps are moderate, with only an occasional snow or ice storm, so this area of the country is motorcycle-friendly almost year-round. Dress in layers, bring your cold gear and your heated gear, and all through the fall and winter months you can enjoy miles of God’s creative beauty across the rolling hills of southwest Texas. Come and ride the Lone Star state. And visit www.MotorcycleAccessoriesUnlimited.com for all of your gear and accessory needs before hitting the road!
